of the glacier. The San Rafael Lagoon is
located 400 miles of Puerto Montt. It measures
nearly 16 km north to south and 10 km from
east to west. It was discovered in the 16th
century by the Spanish navigator Sir Juan
Garcia Tao. The Glacier emerges from Mount
Nevado San Valentin and continues for 15 km to
the sea where it forms an impressive wall
nearly 2 km wide. >From up close you can
see the giant ice columns up to 70 meters high
and approximately 230 meters deep that
regularly shed huge chunks of ice which break
off and thunder into the sea.

Channel and Castro creek to the town of
Castro.
